The timing of this video could have not been any better. I’m two and a half years vegan now and I’ve never felt so alone with it. Your words perfectly describe how I feel sometimes and gives me hope. It’s hard sometimes and I need to learn to forgive myself when it gets too much. I try to focus on the positives like my mum is 99% plantbased now because she generally agrees that veganism is the way to got (I know she’s not 100% vegan but it’s a huge thing for me and the animals)

I‘m honestly so happy for my friends and family! After my boyfriend and I turned vegan together my best friend and her boyfriend turned vegan as well, my sister turned vegetarian at least and is raising her child without fish and meat as well ❤ every time I come home my mum cooks completely vegan and even my grandma is turning all her recipes vegan, so there‘s always food for me 🥰

The hardest part for me is knowing how much trouble the planet is in. Climate change is so real and a massive part of it is due to factory farming, overfishing, etc. People seem so worried about the planet but don’t want to change their diet to help the situation or they don’t think it’ll help. Been vegan for 4 years and will never go back. Shoutout to all the vegans, you’re not alone 🙏🏻

For me the hardest thing is dealing with the hypocrisy of people who talk about empathy and respecting nature and loving animals while participating in animal cruelty, mass extinction and destruction of Earth. Having to bite my lip because I don't know what to say in those situations and I need / want to maintain those relationships (because I have to work with them or have them as neighbors etc.) Feeling awful afterward that I didn't say anything. I know I should ask questions to get them to think, instead of telling them they're being hypocritical, but I'm not sure how to ask those questions and I can't think of what to say in the moment.

Some nonvegans also lie about why most ex vegans leave veganism. Stats show it's for social reasons. Such as bullying or a low number of vegan restaurants or products when going out or with family and friends or traveling.

Hi Ed, I know the struggle all too well, those juicy steaks are haunting me in my dreams, I crave a fat laden slab of cow, cooked to perfection dark caramelized on the outside still pink in the middle. But I resist the temptation your book has shown me the light, you are my inspiration, you are my jesus. I humbly prey to your divine teachings. Thank you ed for all you have done, but we need to go further we need to stop the vile practice of ripping root vegetables out he ground, carrots should have rights too. Are you with me ed?

Agreed. The hardest is to get family or friends to understand that vegan is the answer. I have a sister who she won't even listen she gets so upset. We have gotten in screaming matches. She just doesn't want to know. Then I have a friend who is such a jerk saying that he and his family will probably get their own cow. As I explain about the rape and forcing this cow to produce milk for their selfishness it just goes around and around. They just don't get it!!

Protein is from lentils, soya beans, milk.

I honestly can see him going vegan. You can tell he was actually uncomfortable, that he saw the contradiction. And he asked Ed what he ate that tastes good. He felt bad and was curious about other alternatives. Hopefully the seeds Ed planted will sprout.

I find it very hard to find that balance between being vocal and clear about it, but not aggressive or pessimistic. Spot on, Ed. When I first went vegan I didn't realize how traumatizing the reactions of friends and family would be. Six years later and I still can't point to a single person who has gone vegan because of me. Some of the strangers I've talked to on the street thru activism have probably made the change, but it's hard seeing those closest to us continue to support such violent industries remain willfully ignorant for so long.

Fully vegan it's not optimal overall.

My hardest thing about being vegan, is the cognitive dissonance people have on getting pleasure from killing animals, when there is a CHOICE, it makes it that more sociopathic, when someone chooses to get pleasure from killing animal, it doesn't matter if you directly,or indirectly kill them, and eat their bodies, for pleasure, its horrid.

For me the biggest thing is the lack of support. My friends and family look down on me for being "a picky eater". Only my mom has been supportive, because I convinced her to go plant-based, oil free and she has lost a lot of weight, something she had been struggling with. But I guess that's something.

I think the hardest thing for me is having a husband who views veganism as a religion, as a cult even. I went vegan with my two eldest daughters about 7 years ago but he refused to let our youngest join us. As you say, it’s that disbelief that’s the hardest…that people you love can be so unwilling to try to understand, so unwilling to try to be ‘better’ for their own peace of mind, for their health and the health of our planet…the planet OUR children will be inheriting. But I’m softening them…and friends…one delicious meal at a time.

Vegan since '16, still looking for that balance. But yea Ed, you are so right about basically all these things. (Obv esp the deodorant ;)) The thing thats the hardest is the inappropiate unnecessary cruelty. Not having vegan friends is a product of that. I think vegans must actively unite. Sadly where i am from, even the vegans are complete numbskulls, openly mocking anyone trying to make new friends in the local fb group, just because they lack the ballz to even try. There is also no university in this area, which is not a coincidence.

Friend and families are the problem too. Many of them say they just wouldn’t watch videos like Dominion or Earthling. There are resources out there, most people choose to be blind

i go to college in texas and it’s been extremely hard to be vegan here, from having little to no options at the dining hall to events on campus that promise to have free food but there’s nothing for me to eat. it’s isolating too sometimes because food is often used as a way that people bond with one another and i feel like i miss out on that when there’s nothing for me to eat.

I stopped taking leftists seriously when I realized they are all talk. Blaming corporations and government is easy but changing your lifestyle takes some effort. I’d try to discuss why veganism is a moral imperative but all I got was excuses. This guy just reminded me of all that. He seems to say the right things but actual praxis is not happening

Something that I've been struggling with recently is the number of "ex vegans" who are switching back to consuming animal products (usually due to "health concerns"). It seems to be happening a lot lately and every story that comes out about it is just another justification for non vegans to continue what they're doing and use it as "proof" that veganism is unhealthy. I find it really difficult to argue against this (even though I've been vegan for 7 years with no health issues) and it makes veganism just seem like a fad or a joke :( Would love to hear your opinion on this Ed!

Whenever I find myself getting irritated when people "just don't get it", refuse to change and won't go vegan when I click my fingers, I find it's worth remembering that before going vegan I too used to eat animals, never really thought about it too much, enjoyed a KFC once a week etc. just like everyone else. Almost everyone out there was a non-vegan first. There was a time when we "just didn't get it" and didn't want to change. And then one day, we did. Just a thought.

The hardest part for us is that we have tried so hard to explain and gently inform/educate our families, but they still don't want to change, and claim at the same time to be animal lovers! We often relate our situation to the film The Matrix because we feel like the only ones who see the real truth. Anyhow, on a positive, we went vegan together and always have each others backs in social situations. This gives us the confidence to stand strong when people make fun, groan or moan. They thing the hardest part of going vegan is ChEezeEeE, but it's really what you are describing. The isolation, being the inconvenience, listening to apologies when people forget that you're vegan, eating a sad unseasoned aubergine with tofu at a wedding and having to be thankful for a provided 'vegan option'. Well put. Bullying is by far the “hardest” part of being a vegan that I have experienced. And people who do the bullying don’t even realizing they are doing it. It’s always open season for vegans

vegan 7 years next month. I've become more and more vocal as of late, as I truly believe and see the truth that animals don't deserve the suffering us humans put on them. All the lies and propaganda the meat and dairy industry have told us over the years, have been dispelled. They will still continue to spread false information like regenerative farming with animals is better, which is a complete lie. Or that its necessary to eat meat for protein etc. All these lies can be told, but the one thing that they cannot dismiss is that THESE ANIMALS HAVE EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS AND SUFFER GREAT PAIN AND DISTRESS. I always ask non vegans who confront me, do you support murder and rape of innocent animals who cry in fear and pain? There is no way around that question or any justifiable answer. They get stumped. And if they lie and say "well the animals aren't murdered or raped" or "animals dont have feelings", well you're talking to someone you cannot argue with. They are brainwashed and desensitized because of fear of accepting the sad truth. Their ego gets in the way of transcending to a higher level of consciousness.

This video has been incredibly helpful. It's true the only hard aspect of veganism is dealing with the loneliness. Watching your children tuck into their bacon sandwiches and sausages and you stay silent as images of farrowing crates and slaughterhouses come to mind.

I dont think ill go vegan, but is there any chance you can do bloodwork or something that shows exactly how healthy you are with solid data for people to examine. I think alot of people would love that transperancy.

I'm at my limit. I can't compartmentalize any more. I am on the verge of more or less cutting off everyone in my life who is not vegan. I just cant do it any more I just cant I love your optimism and spirit but I am broken. I never had a chance I had so many brain injuries as a child and it was topped off with a tbi and 10 fractures a few years ago. I white knuckle every day. Either I finally put myself first and let these people live only in my memories or I just reach my limit...im so tired..

The hardest part for me is the people who have watched documentaries like earthlings or dominion and still choose to support those industries. A few years ago, I showed earthlings to one of my close friends. She cried throughout the entire documentary, and afterwards we both sat in silence for a long time thinking about what we’d just witnessed. She vowed to never eat meat again. A few weeks later I saw her posting a meal on social media including meat. I lost any respect I had for her. I always try to tell myself that people aren’t vegan because they are just ignorant to what is going on. It’s people that aren’t ignorant that really get to me.

When I turned vegan over night, my husband - who was a vegetarian at that time (while I was still a meat eater) - I was just like: You will have to buy your yoghurts etc. yourself from now on. He didn't', he just ate what I ate and a couple of years later we are totally happy, healthy and never questioned our decision to turn vegan. We both feel it enriched our life so much, it is actually hard to put it into words. Friends and family don't get that, but you can't have everything. :) Lots of love from Switzerland
